The Unique Challenges The Wives Of Pastors Face

JORIE HOLMAN, ALEXANDRA LUCAS, & KELLY CARLSON | The Friendship Table Co-Founders

Jorie, Kelly, and Alexandra joined together to share the challenges and blessings of being the wives of pastors. They also talked about the importance of having a supportive community of likeminded peers, which is what they are launching in “The Friendship Table”.

The three women shared their personal journeys and the difficulties they have faced, such as feeling isolated, carrying the burdens of ministry, and dealing with criticism from church members. They emphasized the need for a safe space where pastors’ wives can openly share their struggles and joys, and support one another.

The discussion highlighted the value of peer groups and the role they can play in providing encouragement, prayer, and a sense of community for those in ministry leadership roles.

The Legal Rights To Share Your Faith

Brad Dacus, the founder of the Pacific Justice Institute, is on a personal mission. That is to embolden Believers to share their faith.

Brad spoke earlier this month at the Christian Business Connections luncheon. He discussed how his organization, the Pacific Justice Institute, provides free legal services to defend faith and family. He’s built a network of Christian attorneys throughout the nation.

He shared his personal story of starting the organization and the various cases they have taken on, including defending religious freedom and parental rights.

Brad was generous enough to create one of the most valuable resources available on Hope Herald. That is four videos on the Believer Rights page. These include:

  • Empowering Christians In The Workplace
  • Empowering Christians In The Schools
  • Empowering Street Preachers
  • Empowering Christian Business Owners

These training sessions are not to be missed!

National Day Of Prayer

Dozens of pastors, ministry leaders, and prayer warriors gathered together at the Washoe County Complex on May 7 to participate locally in the National Day of Prayer.

The event was led up this year by Pastor Dan Sipma of University Family Fellowship and he did the invocation before Diana Rodriguez opened up with the National Anthem.

As the event continued, several stepped up to lead the prayer time, with topics of focus including government, the United States, Israel, the media, the next generation, the unborn, children, schools, teachers, the military, marriage, families, the oppressed, church leaders and missionaries, and revival throughout the city.

Under the bright sunshine, it was a powerful time of prayer for our community. As the gathering was coming to a close, the commitment was to make next year’s event one which would be attended by hundreds, if not thousands.

Mayoral Candidates Meet With Pastors

Several dozen pastors in our community gathered together Wednesday, May 6, to hear two mayoral candidates speak about how their faith would guide their leadership should they get elected to office.

The event was hosted by Pastor César Minera and his team at Palabra de Vida. They served up a tasty feast for lunch for all who were attending.

Pastor César framed the importance of the event at the beginning.

“Many people would say that church and politics shouldn’t mix,” he said. “However, the Bible is filled with stories of politics.”

He went on to explain how important he believes it is for all of us to support those candidates who share our Christian values.

Tim Ross, who is running for Reno Mayor, talked about his Catholic faith and the significance of it in his life. He also spoke about his past service as a Sergeant with the Washoe County Sherriff department and shared how he is the candidate most supported by law enforcement.

Sparks mayoral candidate Wendi Rawson shared her experience of growing up as a pastor’s daughter. Her father is Pastor Dan Sigma of University Family Fellowship.

Wendi delivered the line of the day when she was asked how she would be able to keep true to her Biblical principles, while facing cultural controversies as a mayor.

“I don’t fear any man as much as I do my Lord,” she said in explaining how she wouldn’t sacrifice her beliefs for political benefits.

The pastors in attendance agreed on the importance of encouraging their congregations to be fully informed on the values of the candidates up for election, and to make sure they vote.

Christ & Culture Night With A.J. Hurley

Calvary Chapel Reno-Sparks hosted a night of bold, thought-provoking conversation and live Q&A with AJ Hurley and Pastor Phil McKay on Wednesday, April 29.

AJ is a fiery torchbearer of the pro-life movement and he held nothing back in calling the Body of Christ to action in defending the rights of the unborn.

Pastor Phil and AJ dove into how God’s Word speaks directly to the defining issues of our generation, cutting through confusion with clarity, truth, and conviction.

Following the discussion, attendees were encouraged to ask questions in exploring what it means to stand firm in faith in a rapidly changing world. It was a dynamic evening of insight, challenge, and encouragement for all who attended.

Cooking Up New Ways To Build A Church Building

Pastor Leo Castro of Eternidad Christian Center  is leading a building project for his church that is being funded through innovative community efforts. The church, which serves an ethnically diverse congregation with a large Hispanic population, is undergoing a three-phase renovation process.

Phase one is complete, and phase two is underway, which involves renovating the church’s patio to create a community event space. Phase three will focus on building a new sanctuary. To fund the project, the church is relying on the talents and skills of its congregation, with members volunteering their time and expertise in construction, cooking, and other areas.

The church is also hosting monthly fundraising meals cooked by its talented chefs, which are open to the community. This unique approach to funding the building project reflects the church’s commitment to serving its diverse community.

PAST EVENTS

Churches Gather To Celebrate Good Friday

Last year’s Reno-Tahoe CityFest movement provided for several multi-church prayer gatherings and it’s been an initiative shared by many to carry on the momentum of those events.

This is exactly what occurred with the One Voice Prayer & Worship Night hosted on Friday, April 3 at Outlook Church.

According to Pastor Dan Dix, who helped to lead up the effort, more than 440 were in attendance with ten churches participating in an evening to celebrate Good Friday together.

“We were so encouraged by the turnout,” fellow event organizer Pastor Angelo Austria says. “People just kept coming.”

Whether or not your church was formerly involved in the event, everyone was welcome to join in this precious time of prayer and praise. There was even a special program for children to celebrate Good Friday as well.

The goal is to try to organize similar churchwide prayer events on at least a quarterly basis.

Did your church participate? If not, and you’re a church leader, reach out to Pastor Dan Dix to make sure that you’re an early participant of the next one.
